Resilience: Burkinabés share their reactions after hotel siege

Burkina Faso has declared three days of national mourning following the attack that killed at least 29 people from 18 countries.

48 hours after extremists attacked a luxury hotel and a nearby cafe in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou , residents share their reactions.

“The mentality of the people has to change, and each Burkinabe has to have courage and a lot more vigilance,” says Idriss Ouédraogo who lives in Ouagadougou.

Another resident, Daouda Moumoula says: “We will be more vigilant, but this wont prevent us from coexisting with our brothers, whether you are black or white, whether you are Christian or Muslim.”

“We are just emerging from a crisis. And now the resources that we would use to rebuild the country are all going to be used to fight terrorism,” says Lassané Kabré, a resident in Ouagadougou.

Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) claimed responsibility for the attack.
